Richard Smith is an Ardent Group Director and leads the company’s Tenement Management and Approvals practice. Richard has worked for both the government and private sectors and consulted for hundreds of Australia’s leading organisations in the mining, energy, environmental, and infrastructure sectors.   

He has gained approvals for hundreds of exploration, mining and energy clients (from small-scale operators to multinational companies) and has been involved in providing licensing advice under mining, energy, environmental, water, rail, road and port legislation. Throughout his career, Richard’s work has been client-focused. He has extensive experience in client liaison, contractor and staff management, stakeholder liaison, and budget setting and achievement.

Richard’s clients rely on his extensive knowledge of legislation and expertise in liaising with stakeholders from government departments to specialist professionals.  He provides clients with practical advice on legislative and regulatory requirements and helps companies gain workable and environmentally sustainable approvals.

He has project management experience, including large-scale and highly technical projects where the integration of client systems and personnel is essential. 

Richard is a member of the AMEC Qld Advisory Committee and AusIMM Tenement Management Society Committee.
